SOS Social Centres in South Korea

In South Korea there are currently three Social Centres for children and the local community, in Suncheon, Daegu and Seoul.  Many SOS Social Centres operate via Family Strengthening Programmes, which aim to support the wider community.  Below is some information about some of the Social Centres that SOS Children runs in South Korea:

DaeguSOS Day Care Centre - SOS Social Centre Seoul

Description of SOS Social Centre/FSP:

In 1999, an SOS Social Centre was built. It offers day care for up to 80 children and has five group rooms and facilities for educational therapy and other counselling services.

Work and Achievements:

The SOS Child Welfare Centre has provided English and Chinese language classes.  It has facilities to cater for rehabilitation services for disabled children.  There is an SOS library on the premises.  There is also an SOS Temporary Care Centre, which has seen an increase in admissions in the past year.  Services have included: therapy, school guidance programmes and the services of a youth counselor.

SeoulSOS Social Centre Seoul South Korea

Description of SOS Social Centre/FSP:

The SOS Social Centre, which is located on the site of the SOS Children's Village, was opened in 1982 and offers programmes of further education, lectures and other activities. It includes a day-care centre for children of working mothers. The children receive a meal every day. The SOS Social Centre has contributed a lot towards the acceptance of the SOS Children's Village by the local population

Work and Achievements:

The SOS Child Welfare Centre in Seoul provided study classes for children to improve their study skills.  A community puppet show and a cappella performance were organised for the children.  Amongst other projects, the Centre offered lunches to those children from the lowest income families.  The SOS Day Care Centre in Seoul offered classes to help teacher’s professional development.  It ran classes educating parents in nutrition and parenting skills. 

Suncheon

Description of SOS Social Centre/FSP:

In September 2004, an SOS Social Centre opened its doors on the site of the SOS Children's Village. It consists of four group rooms for free-time activities and study support.
