SOS Children have expanded Emergency Relief to provide food parcels, medicaments and tents

Pakistan flood boy carrying loadAs well as providing 100,000 food parcels to the flood victims of Pakistan, SOS Children are now also planning to deliver vital medicines and waterproof tents.

Our colleagues in Pakistan will purchase drugs, tents and food, according to the availability on the market; and with the help of other local organisations, deliver to the flood affected areas.

SOS Pakistan has established contact with the army commander in charge of the flood relief efforts, based in Lahore. Due to our successful collaboration with the army following the earthquake in 2005, they are very keen to co-operate with us, and have offered us support if we require, including offering to help distribute the food, drugs and tents.

For now, the supplies will be taken, by trucks by our partner NGOs, to flooded areas in northern Pakistan, including the south of the Punjab province and the province of Sindh.

Help for orphaned, abandoned or lost children

SOS Children Pakistan has offered assistance to the government, and are ready and able to welcome any unaccompanied children in any of our eight unaffected Villages.

Mrs Souriya Anwar, President of Pakistan said: "Fortunately none of the SOS projects anywhere in the country are affected, nor are they are likely to be in the future, as they are in safe areas. However, as you are aware large areas of the country and millions of people are affected. We have offered to the concerned authorities in all regions that we will take responsibility for any orphaned, abandoned or lost child."
