Inoltre, ebbe l'idea di farsi ritrarre con uno di quegli abiti da Madame Vigée-Lebrun. Il ritratto provocò uno scandalo quando fu esposto al Salone. Il fatto che la regina di Francia si vestisse come una cameriera suscitò reazioni indignate. Alcuni sostennero che stesse cospirando con il fratello per condurre alla rovina i mercati di seta di Lione e al benessere i fabbricanti di lino di Bruxelles.
