Date

The University of Manitoba claims 1870, but the Virtual Métis Museum states 1884, which is more credible, given that the photographer came to Winnipeg only in 1880.

The University of Manitoba states that engraver Octave-Henri Julien (1852-1908) was believed to have used the carte de visite for an engraving published in The Canadian Illustrated News, so possibly this digital image was derived from that newspaper publication.
