Description
English: An early photo of the second campus of the California State Normal School in downtown Los Angeles. The school opened in 1882 as a branch of the original campus in San Jose, and in 1914 moved to second location on the 800 block of Vermont Avenue. In 1919 it became the University of California, Southern Branch and, after moving to its present location in 1925, it would be renamed the University of California at Los Angeles in 1927 and present University of California in 1958.

The location in this photo would become the site of the iconic Los Angeles Central Library, built in 1926.

Given the above, this photo was taken sometime between 1882 and 1914 and before 1923 for copyright purposes.
