Aids Orphans in Tunisia
Tunisia is in north Africa on the shores of the Mediterranean, bordered by Algeria to the west and Libya to the south. Despite a high degree of development, including the emancipation of women and free compulsory education, Tunisia has many social problems particularly in urban areas where unemployment is high and slum areas proliferate. It is, like many north African countries, not as badly affected by HIV/AIDS as countries of sub-Saharan Africa. The adult prevalence rate is less than 0.1%.
SOS Children in Tunisia
SOS Children has worked in Tunisia since 1983 and currently has three SOS Children's Village projects caring for orphaned children. As in all of our projects, SOS Children works to strengthen families and prevent abandonment. This includes ensuring that children and young people are aware of the impact that HIV/AIDS can have on families.
